I grew up in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis, MN and attended Minnesota State University Moorhead for my Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Performance, Directing, and Dance. I have since traveled all over the country as an actor/director/choreographer. Some favorite stopping points have been Boston, MA, Austin, TX and Farmington, NM. From 2007-12 I was based out of Minneapolis, MN. During my tenure in the Twin Cities, I was the resident Director of Theatre at DeLaSalle High school, a faculty teaching artist at The Children's Theatre Company and in the summer of 2012, the Associate Artistic Director for the Ordway Center for the Arts' Triple Threat Training.
My work has also been seen at the Ordway Center for the Arts with Theatre Latte Da, The Children's Theatre Company, Minneapolis Musical Theatre, Hennepin Stages, Actor's Theatre of Minnesota, Young Artist's Initiative, Carondelet Middle School, Anoka Arts Middle School, DeLaSalle High School, Paramount Theatre, Pioneer Place on 5th, Paul Bunyan Playhouse, Theatre L'Homme Dieu, GREAT Theatre, Shakespearean Youth Theatre, Eat Street Players, Savage Umbrella and the National Theatre for Children.
2012 brought a move to Orlando, FL to complete my MFA in Acting at the University of Central Florida. This assistantship provided extensive training in voice, movement, acting, and theory as well as the opportunity to teach undergraduate curriculum.
In summer of 2013, I was selected to participate in a three week musical theatre intensive at the International Performing Arts Institute including performances in Kiefersfelden, Germany; Vienna and Kufstein, Austria. I also began my certification in Michael Chekhov Technique Teacher Training at Kent State University in June. In August, I presented a workshop entitled iMove - Image Based Movement for the Contemporary Stage at the National ATHE conference.
My 3 year MFA program included a year long residency at the Orlando Shakespeare Theater for the 2014-15 Season. Favorite roles include: Fanny, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickelby; Featured Ensemble/Mme Thenardier u.s., Les Miserables; Mary Ellis, The Best of Enemies; Centipede/Aunt Spiker, James and the Giant Peach; and Bardolf, The Merry Wives of Windsor. The end of 2014 brought a lovely nod from the Orlando Sentinel naming me one of the most varied actors for 2014 with contrast from Fanny in Nicholas Nickleby to Mary in The Best of Enemies.
I finished my MFA in Acting in the spring of 2015 with the publication of my thesis: The Branding, Creation, and Promotion of a Solo Comedienne which explored the creation of solo work by female character performers and the utilization of new technologies to promote independent work. In tandem with my thesis research, I created my own solo show: An Evening with Aunt Nona which toured in August of 2015 and had its New York City Debut on September 18, 2015 at the United Solo Festival. 2015 also included becoming a proud member of Actor's Equity Association.
Summer of 2015 included the conclusion of my three year certification program of the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique Teacher Training. I also, once again, served as a teaching artist for Orlando Shakespeare Theater, Orlando Repertory Theater, and The Ordway Center for Performing Arts.
I have now found permanent residence in New York City. Aunt Nona had her NYC debut in September and toured upstate New York in May of 2016. Finding residency in Harlem also brought the opportunity to serve as a guest artist at City College of New York as choreographer for the musical, Working.
March 2016 brought the official opening of my coaching business: Joy! Creative Coaching; serving artists and students in their creative development and execution of projects.
